Real-Time Awareness: Introducing Chirp’s Notification Center
Today, we’re introducing another essential tool for anyone running IoT setups on Chirp: the Notification Center. Built for clarity and speed, it helps you keep track of what’s happening across your devices, system rules, and infrastructure — without needing to constantly check dashboards.
What It Solves
In a real-world IoT deployment, events can happen at any time:
A device disconnects, a sensor exceeds a temperature threshold, or a connection drops for too long.
Manually monitoring these events doesn’t scale. That’s where Notification Center comes in. It ensures that the right alerts reach the right people — with the right priority — the moment something changes.
Core Features
Here’s what you can do with the Notification Center:
- Receive alerts in real time when system conditions are met
- Sort notifications by priority: Critical, Important, and Informational
- View a clear list of alerts with timestamps
- Filter alerts by date or priority
- Mark messages as read once reviewed
- Delete notifications to keep your view focused
Whether it’s something urgent (like a device going offline) or routine (like a daily report), notifications are clearly labeled so you can act accordingly.
Example: A Rule in Action
Imagine you’ve set up a rule: “If a temperature sensor reads over 70°C, send a Critical alert.”
Here’s how it plays out:
- The system continuously monitors the condition.
- When the threshold is crossed, the rule is triggered.
- A Critical notification is generated and appears in the Notification Center.
- You receive an email alert as well (if configured).
- You review the message, mark it as read, and fix the issue.
All of this happens automatically — and instantly.
Notification Rules and Delivery
When creating a rule, you can:
- Define custom trigger conditions
- Select priority level (Critical, Important, Information)
- Set recipients, email subject, and message content
- Adjust how often alerts are sent (e.g. once, hourly, or daily)
- Choose to repeat notifications until the issue is resolved
Default Intervals (adjustable):
- Critical — every 1 hour (one-time enabled by default)
- Important — every 4 hours
- Information — once per day
Use Cases
Whether you’re running Chirp devices in a factory, field, or across multiple locations, the Notification Center brings structure to your alerts:
- Get notified when devices go offline
- React to abnormal readings or sensor data
- Track system behavior changes
- Maintain visibility without constant manual checks
