Chirp DePIN Network Dev Diary: Edition #1 — Catching Up on Two Years of Innovation

Hello Chirp DePIN Network Community! Welcome to the first installment of our monthly development diaries. In these series, we aim to provide you with transparent updates on our journey, milestones, and upcoming plans. Let’s kick off with a recap of the groundbreaking work we’ve been up to over the past two years.
Phases of Development: Glide & Soar
Last year, our development phase was aptly named “Glide.” This year, as we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible, we’re transitioning into our “Soar” phase, reflecting our ambition to take Chirp to new heights. You can also follow the road map on https://chirptoken.io/team-and-roadmap/
The Blackbird Gateway: Our Crown Jewel
One of our earliest and proudest accomplishments during the “Glide” phase is the development of our proprietary gateway, The Blackbird. Initially manufactured in Switzerland, we later partnered with RAK Wireless to refine our hardware capabilities. What sets The Blackbird apart?
- Support for multiple telecommunications protocols
- SX1303 chip for TDOA geo location
- Long-range 2.4GHz spectrum capabilities
- mPCIE Slots for easy telecommunication module upgrades
The Edge in Telecommunications
Still within the “Glide” phase, we were first to market with operational support for Type C devices that can be controlled remotely. This feature was introduced way before the competition, enabling commands over vast distances via our bespoke network backbone.
Software Ecosystem: More Than Just Hardware
Also part of our “Glide” phase, we’ve developed an OS to run The Blackbird and launched the alpha version of our IoT platform. This allows seamless integration and data visualization, with the dashboard set for feature enhancements throughout the year.
Early Testing and Mobile App Integration
Earlier this year, marking the beginning of our “Soar” phase, we reached another major milestone when we began testing through our mobile app. For more insights into how this went, you can check out our Twitter post.
Global Expansion and First Sales
Continuing to “Soar,” we’re thrilled to announce that our gateways have not only sold out within hours but are now being deployed in 33 countries. Track their locations on our network explorer.
Strategic Partnerships and Investments
Our partnership with Mysten Labs has been a game-changer, adding invaluable technological insight into our operations. Special recognition goes to Sui’s team, including Sam Blackshear, the creator of the Move programming language, which is gaining significant traction in the blockchain ecosystem. We’re also collaborating with Zokyo to further advance our blockchain architecture.
