Chirp Announces Installation of IoT Master Gateway, Expanding the Chirp Network by Hundreds of Kilometers
In our previous announcement, we revealed that our decentralized network for IoT was online and operational. This was a huge step forward for Chirp and the decentralized internet of the future. Today, we announce yet another step towards our ultimate goal of growing the Chirp Network to global proportions.
As of yesterday, we have installed a Blackbird Master Gateway on the radio tower of Köterberg, Germany, which is currently distributing wireless IoT access in a radius of hundreds of square kilometers.
We are deeply proud of our team for making this first of many installations a reality. With a single device, the Blackbird Master Gateway, hundreds of square kilometers are now covered by the Chirp Network’s LoRa signal. When the Blackbird launches, we will have the infrastructure to connect thousands of Blackbird miners that can all be validated from a master node to keep the Chirp Network secure.
The Chirp Network itself is powered by a robust crypto token economy where gateway owners, our Blackbird Keepers, are rewarded for their registered installation providing coverage and validating other gateways. Keepers will earn tokens just hosting our network. Our aim is to use this feature to both drastically increase the global average usage of IoT technology through accessibility and to incentivize the expansion of the Blackbird’s mesh of connectivity to provide IoT coverage around the world.
The simplicity of our tokenomics model allows for a number of advantages. Rewards from mining with the Blackbird are distributed equally among gateways. Keepers that join the network receive rewards proportional to the number of total Keepers on the network, so the earlier that a user signs up to become a Keeper, the greater their portion of the rewards will be as the network grows.
However, tokenization and reward systems can also invite exploits. This is why Chirp is dedicated to preventing exploits like spoofing with multiple layers of security that validate the existence of Blackbirds, GPS location services that monitor the registered geolocation of the gateway, and other security measures to ensure that our Keepers rewards are all legitimate. Security is top priority, and we’ve made it nearly impossible to spoof on our network.
That is why this announcement is so important to us. The Blackbird master gateway installation in Köterberg is a leap forward in ensuring the security of our system and the health of our tokenomic model as we design, engineer and develop further advancements for the Chirp Network.
In addition to the massive field of coverage, this Blackbird will serve as:
- A secure and efficient testing ground for QA and development leading up to launch
- A Chirp-owned validator for our token ecosystem
- An anti-spoofing measure designed to ensure that all connected gateways are real
- Proof that our goal of worldwide coverage is on the horizon.
We are very excited to share this moment with our community, and we look forward to what the future holds for us at Chirp and for global IoT technology made accessible through the Blackbird.
