Celebrating Two Years of Chirp: A Journey of Innovation, Growth, and Milestones
On October 18, 2022, Chirp was unveiled to the Web3 community, building on the foundation laid by Mesh+. Chirp emerged with a vision to revolutionize the Internet of Things (IoT) and telecommunications industries through decentralized infrastructure and cutting-edge blockchain technology. Over these two years, we’ve weathered the longest bear market, yet made significant strides — launching products, forging strategic partnerships, and advancing our DePIN and IoT infrastructure. Now, as we approach the mainnet launch and CHIRP token debut on the Sui network, it’s a perfect moment to reflect on our beginnings and celebrate the incredible progress we’ve made since Chirp’s inception in 2022.
2022: Laying the Foundation
We began our journey by sharing a clear vision and a set of goals that have remained unchanged: to disrupt traditional telecom models through a decentralized approach, placing the community at its core, and to revolutionize the rapidly evolving IoT sector in preparation for a scalable future by addressing four major challenges — complexity, fragmentation, scalability, and trust.
To achieve this, we assembled a world-class team of IoT and telecom experts and quickly began turning these ideas into reality. This led to the introduction of our DePIN for IoT and Blackbird miners — community-owned gateways that started bridging the fragmented IoT space by supporting four wireless connectivity technologies. At the same time, we unveiled the first features of our intuitive IoT platform, developed to simplify IoT and drive adoption. Additionally, we introduced the CHIRP token’s carefully designed tokenomics model, which incorporates deflationary mechanisms and incentives for network participation, laying the foundation for the token’s critical role in powering the entire Chirp ecosystem.
During this foundational year, we also began building a dedicated community, bringing together early supporters who shared our vision and helped lay the first bricks of a growing network of pioneers. As 2022 came to a close, these efforts positioned Chirp for an even more impactful year in 2023, marked by product launches, partnerships, and progress toward our mainnet launch.
2023: A Year of Expansion, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships
Building on the strong foundation laid in 2022, 2023 was a year of significant growth and technological advancement for Chirp, resulting in the expansion of our decentralized IoT network and preparation for a transformative future.
The key partnership was formed with RAKWireless for development of custom carrier grade gateways to expand Chirp’s IoT connectivity capabilities, allowing us to offer more robust and versatile solutions to users worldwide. With this partnership a major milestone was achieved with the first sale and shipment of Blackbird miners, marking our initial hardware deployment in 33 countries and solidifying Chirp’s presence in the global IoT landscape. This was followed by key advancements in security, as we introduced robust measures to ensure that Chirp’s decentralized network operates within a zero-trust environment, prioritizing safety and data integrity.
We continued building and engaging our community, launching our Development Diary series to share regular updates on our technical and developmental progress. Our growth was further accelerated by strategic partnership with Mysten Labs, after which we integrated the Sui blockchain, enhancing Chirp’s scalability and enabling faster, more secure transactions across our network.
Looking back, 2023 was a year of bold achievements and global expansion. With these developments in place, Chirp soared to new heights and laid the groundwork for what promises to be an explosive 2024, with the anticipated mainnet launch, CHIRP token launch, and the introduction of many exciting new features.
2024: The Year of Launches
This year has been a turning point for Chirp, beginning with the successful testnet launch on the Sui network in March, setting the stage for the upcoming mainnet and CHIRP token launch. In 2024, Chirp expanded its global presence, with Blackbird miners now deployed in 39 countries. We made significant improvements to our miners, including new firmware releases that enhanced availability, and the introduction of a mining board on the Chirp IoT platform, enabling Keepers to efficiently manage rewards and operations. Additionally, we began developing Keeper reward protection mechanisms, set to be introduced post-mainnet, safeguarding long-term incentives.
Our IoT platform received substantial upgrades, including a redesigned user interface and advanced IoT data widgets. We expanded the number of devices that can connect to our network, offering a seamless way for individuals and businesses to manage all their IoT devices from one place — eliminating the need to switch between multiple apps or platforms.
Chirp’s visibility grew significantly in 2024, driven by strategic partnerships, appearances at major Web3 events, and increased recognition in crypto and tech media. To further engage our community, we ran successful airdrop campaigns and contests, and introduced Chirp NFTs, which fostered participation and increased on-chain activity. This helped grow our community to over 115K users, generating excitement for what’s to come
October 18, 2024: We Start Our 3rd Year of Journey
As we celebrate Chirp’s third anniversary, we look ahead to what promises to be our most exciting phase yet. In the immediate future, we are gearing up for some major launches, including the TGE, mainnet on Sui Network, CHIRP token listings on exchanges, and, of course, the long-awaited $CHIRP airdrop distribution.
But we’re not stopping there. As we look to the medium and long-term, we are returning to our core vision: building the most innovative and robust IoT solutions within an inclusive and community-centered decentralized ecosystem. Our goal is to continue strengthening the Chirp network, ensuring that the CHIRP token is deeply integrated with our IoT solutions, offering big potential and real-world applications that benefit both the project and the community building Chirp alongside us.
